The Iron Horse Challenge is a 3 city in 3 Sunday supportive cycling event that links the 3 Walks to Defeat ALS, put on my the Central and Southern Ohio ALS chapter. Riders join us to ride from Columbus to Dayton/Fairborn as the first step in our journey. Riding 60+ miles to walk 3.1 miles, just to show that ALS the support in this fight against ALS has no boundaries.
As supporters of those who battle with ALS, it is also important that we preserve and defend the fighters dignity, their ability to define themselves, and to acknowledge their spirit, character, and choices. We must never forget to respect the person who is fighting, never forget that it is their life that is being fought for, their life that is being changed and torn apart, their choices that everyday are being marginalized by the disease and daily taken away from them. We need to work everyday to empower their ability to make choices about their life and to help them live their lives to the fullest, to hear their minds and help them to communicate their feelings. We are there to celebrate them and cherish them in their struggle. This is also a function of preserving their rights as a person, as an individual, as an equal.
The Walk to Defeat ALS is a empowerment of hope. It is a symbol of what a community can do to help those who suffer.
In 2006 ALS changed my life by taking my mother, Sandy Schulte. My desire to preserve her memory and your spirit by striving to make sure that others have a chance at a cure is at the center of my actions. I created the Iron Horse Challenge in 2007 in an effort to unify the Central and Southern Ohio's Walk to Defeats ALS. As cyclists we ride from Columbus to Dayton and to Cincinatti to show that we can unify this state in its fight to support those that suffer and to prove that action can help find a cure. Please consider supporting us by donating what you can. Share this email and send it on to others; with one person being affected every 90 minutes you may be surprised to find out you know someone who is suffering. I hope we can find a cure.
I hope love and compassion is greater than this disease.
I hope we can all find a way to make a difference.
Please consider joining us in our ride, cheering us on, and donating to our cause.
Without you, We go Nowhere ...together we can find a cure!
